It’s decades later and Sam is an old man, but he hasn’t given up. He lives an austere existence guided by a single mission, quite the ascetic, almost like a saint, except that no one wrote his gospel when he saved the goddamn world, and no one will write it now when he’s trying to save just two people. His joints are getting his stiff. His hair is going gray. It’s been so long.

Sometimes Sam thinks about how he might die without seeing his brother again. He lingers on the thought, lets it burn him from the inside. 

Then he goes back to work.
